On a Pedestal.

What I think is one of many reasons why people are afraid of rejection is due to how they’ve placed whatever they are pursuing on a pedestal above themselves which leads them to THINK that everything will end if they are unable to obtain it.

This could be absolutely anything in the world; that job, that promotion, that scholarship, that girl, that guy, that house etc. But here’s the thing, if you’re not going to die and the world is not going to explode, then is it something to be afraid of? No.

Also, if that is the case, is that thing that you are after, the only one in this world? Most of the time it’s not.

There is another job that you can find which you will enjoy. There is another scholarship out there. There is another guy/girl out there since the last I checked, there’s more than just two people on this planet. So really rejection isn’t something you should be afraid of but rather something that you should get over with as it allows you to move on to other things more worth your time.

Gratitude # 8: Haul no Buckets.

I am grateful for having running water. I can just turn on the faucet and a stream of clean water comes out, eliminating the need for me to haul buckets of water day in and day out.

Not a Perfectionist.

I was recently presented with a situation that made me want to turn back time and redo it all in an attempt to reach “Perfection”.

I started to become consumed with the idea that “If I had a second chance to do it, it would be perfect” as well as “How was I so stupid to not realize that I could have made it even more perfect”?

Well, if I was the Prince of Persia then maybe I’d have a chance at changing the past but since I’m not, I’m going to have to deal with it. Luckily enough though, as quick as those thoughts came into my mind, they left just as quickly.

I let it go with no fuss.

I did it so easily not because I didn’t care about what I did but rather because I’ve grown from who I was before. Back in the day I would’ve been so consumed with the thought of “if only I had a second chance then I’d do it perfectly” but now I see that I’m not perfect.

I’m not perfect so I can’t achieve “perfect” results, there will always be something that I will tell myself I could get better at and that’s fine; it just means that I’ll continue growing indefinitely.

I get high on….

I wish I had more time to…

You remember those words?

It’s like a constant phrase that rings through a student’s mind day in and day out. We wish we had more time to do a lot of things and we complain that there’s too much homework or too many things going on in our lives to do it. Fact is it may be true, some students may have ridiculous amounts of homework to do but not all of us are jam packed with piles of homework every day. Yet we blame it on school.

But now that its reading week and there is no school, we have so much more time on our hands to do whatever we want, but does that phrase still ring in our heads?

Yes, because regardless if we’re in school or not we still procrastinate.

How responsible a person is with their priorities deals with this more than what’s going on in their life right now. However, there are exceptions.

So if there’s no deathly tragedy affecting you or your family and you’re not constantly bombarded by piles of homework everyday then there is no excuse for not having enough time.

First Impressions.

Sitting beside me today in the cafeteria was a group of guys having some dude bonding when one of them seemed to really enjoy making fun of people’s clothes as they walked by..

It made me think…. does this guy have nothing better to talk about than talk down on other people? Does it actually make him feel better?

Well clearly it does, otherwise I wouldn’t be bothered.

This guy doesn’t even know the person he is making comments about, yet then again I am in the same situation… only to an extent though.

Sure, clothes do add up to the initial impression for a person but the way they act and the way they treat other people; those are the qualities that stand out more than any piece of clothing.

And this person has soiled their’s.

Sure, maybe that’s their personality but I don’t have to like it, yet even though I don’t like it I don’t have to talk down on them to express it.

All I have to do is dismiss them entirely since I don’t want people like that.

Preservation by Cement

When you bury a body within a casket and then encase it with cement, you do so to preserve the body of the said person as well as all the memories they are tied to.

As such, memories, while they let us remember the dead are in fact just like the dead themselves; they’ve already passed and are no longer here.

They were the life changing moments that have led us to where we are just like the people we who have played roles in our lives leading us to where we are; so we want to never forget them thus we try our best to preserve them.

Anything buried in the Earth gets layered over by dirt just as anything buried in your mind is layered over by thoughts/memories. If they (as in the bodies or memories) are buried in this way, then we will eventually lose the impact they once had when they decompose.

So we avoid it.

Avoid it through preservation by encasing them under cement, that way no matter how much Earth is is piled on top, no matter how many thoughts fly through your mind you will never forget what should always be remembered.

The memories and/of the people who had significance in your life.

The pick up line to use on a guy.

Why I love “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno.

Woman in the audience: “What’s a good pickup line to use on a guy?”

Jay Leno: “Uhh…….. Hi! I’m a woman”.

Unless you’re an archaeologist, stop digging through the past.

Day 19: Disrespecting my parents.

I’ve disrespected them by lying to them.

I made my mother cry when I was a little boy but what I said or did completely escapes me, all I remember is seeing her cry in the washroom.

I’ve cheated on the homework my mom used to give me.

I’ve procrastinated on some of the chores they’ve told me to do.

Yeah, I’ve disrespected my parents, these are only a few of the things I remember.

No one is a perfect saint, we’ve all disrespected someone at sometime.

Day 18: What do I Believe In?

Well there are many things that I believe in so I’ll only name off a few.

I Believe….

  • That having a positive outlook on life or just positive energy flowing through your body is the best way to enjoy anything to the fullest.
  • I’m not a church going man; I never was. I just believe that there is something out there that is larger than us. I have faith that whatever it is, it is connected to each and every one of us and it is the source of miracles as well as the granter of wishes.
  • That maybe there is a heaven and a hell out there but the reality is that you can make your own heaven right now as well as your own hell.
  • That so long as you are happy, you don’t need to be the richest person on the planet, you don’t need much more than what you can already enjoy otherwise you get obsessed with basing your happiness on only what you buy.
  • That there is Abundance.
  • That when one door closes another one opens, it’s just accepting the fact that the one door is closed is unfortunate but you have to move on.
  • That when you show your appreciation towards someone, genuine appreciation, then they will always remember you.
  • That you can always hope for anything but you can’t expect anything and even if you do, you should always have low expectations.
  • That so long as you do something you enjoy, so long as you pursue your passion, you will be happy.

I Believe that I’m a Believer.

Day 16: Mainstream Music.

When I listen to it, I usually enjoy it.

Mainstream music is enjoyable to me when I hear it on the radio because I rarely listen to mainstream music all the time. I’ve got nothing against it though, it’s just nice to have a wider variety of music types to choose from.  That way it can accommodate my mood very easily as it really all depends on the mood I’m in that day; if the mainstream music matches it then that’s pretty awsome. Otherwise, I’ll stick with my alternatives for it.

Mainstream Music, I enjoy it only when I want to.
